OUC’s Community Engagement and Sustainability teams had a busy April with seven community Earth Month events!

The month began by recognizing 40 Orange County students for their winning art designs and rain barrels promoting water conservation at the annual Water Color Project awards.

Following the ceremony, students’ rain barrels were displayed at the Avalon Park Arts & Culture Center, the H2Show Exhibit at CityArts, and at UCF Celebrates the Arts, held at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Next, OUC partnered with Keep Orlando Beautiful to remove invasive plants at Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake. In less than four hours, 68 OUC employees and their families removed 720 pounds of invasive plants and eight pounds of litter!

While employees volunteered, Diana Medina, Program Support Specialist, and Alinx St. Louis, Conservation Specialist II, represented OUC at Central Florida Earth Day. The duo gave out 1,000 tree seedlings to visitors at Lake Eola Park and provided educational materials on OUC’s conservation and sustainability programs.

To celebrate Earth Day on April 22, more than 20 OUC employees and family members removed 23 bags of litter from Lake Lorna Doone Park in partnership with the Orlando Sports Foundation.

The teams didn’t stop there. Jessica Chislett, Community Engagement Coordinator, represented OUC at the City of Orlando’s “Earth Day Work Day.”

To wrap up the month, OUC attended the City of St. Cloud’s Earth Day celebration. Jovan Frontanes, Conservation Specialist II, and Diana Medina answered questions and provided information on OUC rebates and conservation programs.

Thank you to all who supported OUC’s Earth Month initiatives!
