In July, Rubin York, Emerging Technologies Engineer, was presented with a Young Clean Energy Innovator award by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) during its 2018 3iAward ceremony. The event celebrated the nation’s best in innovation, ingenuity and inspiration in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

York came to OUC in 2013 as a co-op student, graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2016, and started here full time in February. While at UCF, he analyzed wind data to create his own vertical access wind turbine design using a 3-D printer. He also constructed a small floating solar platform on a campus pond.

At OUC, York is currently working on the new solar test site at Pershing. “Viable sustainable solutions are key to meeting our clean energy goals,” said York. “I’m honored to be recognized nationally, and I’m excited to be part of OUC’s pursuit to make Orlando the Greenest City in the Southeast.”
