OUC has partnered with the Orlando Science Center to launch a new interactive exhibit that focuses on water and energy conservation.
Designed to educate and engage, the exhibit highlights the importance of managing these essential resources responsibly and explores innovative solutions for the future.
Through an interactive and gamified experience, guests learn about the critical role utilities play in our lives. Concepts such as IoT (Internet of Things), Smart Grid technology, Micro Grids and sustainable water management (SWM) are introduced while explaining OUC’s use of the Floridan aquifer as a water source.
OUC and the Orlando Science Center’s partnership goes beyond exhibits. Since 2009, the organizations have partnered to educate fifth-graders in Orange and Osceola counties on energy and water conservation through Project A.W.E.S.O.M.E (Alternative Water and Energy Supply; Observation, Methods, and Education).
Taught by OSC educators, the program uses hands-on workshops and labs to inspire interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects.
The exhibit will be on display through 2026, and then move to an OUC facility permanently. Below is a deeper dive into what visitors will experience.
Game 1: Water Works
Delivered as a trivia game using a touchscreen, explore how water reaches residential homes. As participants correctly answer questions, water flows through the house’s system, filling the pipes.
Game 2: Power Play
A second interactive game challenges visitors to route power to a city as quickly and efficiently as possible. Participants select where a city’s buildings, solar panels and power plants are connected to create a balanced power grid. The goal: link all elements so power production and consumption are balanced. The fast-paced game provides a practical and engaging introduction to energy management and the complexity of maintaining a reliable power grid.
