On July 27, OUC’s Emerging Talent interns spent the morning giving back in honor of National Intern Day with Clean the World Foundation, a global nonprofit dedicated to improving communities’ access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene.

Sporting their green volunteer shirts and plastic gloves, the interns went to work unwrapping, sorting and boxing bars of soap. After just four hours, the interns sorted through 40,000 bars of soap that are donated from area hotels and then recycled into new soap bars. The interns also boxed 67,200 bars of soap that will be distributed to impoverished communities around the world to help prevent hygiene-related illnesses and deaths.

The volunteer opportunity introduced the students to OUC’s commitment to employee volunteerism. OUC offers employees a variety of ways to give back through quarterly volunteer events and OUC’s PROUD Volunteer Program, where employees can volunteer for organizations close to their hearts.

“It was a great opportunity to give back to not only the Central Florida community, but also the world,” said Thais Lopez, Community Engagement Intern. “Through my internship at OUC, I’ve had the opportunity to see the impact OUC has throughout Central Florida, and that is because OUC employees know the importance of giving back.”

OUC’s Emerging Talent Internship Program aims to inspire and cultivate the next generation of industry professionals and leaders.

“The students receive real-world, hands-on experience working alongside energy leaders and professionals. Aside from the work experience, the new program offers a structured curriculum of instructor-led and self-paced classes and a mentorship program. The students are partnered with a dedicated mentor to guide them through the 12-week program and assigned project,” said Val SanMarco, Talent Acquisition Manager.

On Aug. 2, the students closed out their internship with graduation and showcase, highlighting their work this summer. For more details about the internship program, click here.
