Alison Roy, HR Specialist, oversaw the setup of the children’s activity area for the Lineman Competition.

The Florida Municipal Electric Association’s Lineman Competition in Orlando was all fun ’n’ games for Alison Roy, OUC HR Specialist, as she watched a young boy emerge from a 120-foot-long inflatable obstacle course.

Roy took on the task of organizing the children’s activity area for the March 4 event with childlike enthusiasm, turning a grassy patch of ground into a pint-sized amusement park. She saw to it that kids would be just as busy as the competing lineworkers whose families had come out to support them.

Besides the obstacle course, other inflatables included a 36-foot tall “alligator” slide and bounce house. Kids also could play interactive games all they wanted, with a basketball free throw contest, toy gun shooting gallery, oversized Jenga blocks and other games within a short sprint of each other. While they caught their breath, they could get their faces painted as the young-at-heart Roy did. The play area was supervised by a team of volunteers.

“This being a family event, we wanted to make sure the kids would be entertained,” says Roy. “I imagine that the end of the day they’ll be as tired as some of the competitors out in the field.”
