On March 14, OUC supported the University of Central Florida’s Big Data Analytics Symposium as part of its mission to develop the next generation of industry professionals. The day-long event provided UCF students with an opportunity to network with industry professionals and explore job opportunities in the field of data science and analytics.

Dawn Frye, meter data operations manager; Justin Kramer, emerging technologies and data analytics interim director; and Gerardo Laborda, digital and technology director, delivered a joint presentation to UCF students.

Laborda explained how the digital and technology team is helping various business units integrate databases and cloud infrastructure into OUC’s network to improve day-to-day operations while maintaining cyber security.

Frye shared how her team leverages a cloud-based meter data platform (MDP) to collect and analyze large volumes of data produced by more than 450,000 meters, enabling accurate and timely billing for OUC customers. The MDP allows OUC to remotely access meter readings, streamlining business processes and reducing operating costs by minimizing unnecessary field work.

Kramer discussed how OUC is using drones to monitor its electric grid, detect damage to distribution and transmission lines, and enhance operation efficiency. Kramer’s team is working on developing new ways to use drones across OUC to evaluate solar panels and manage vegetation around power lines.

OUC’s Talent Acquisition Team including Val San Marco, talent acquisition manager; Kerry Koplin, talent acquisition partner; and Kanthi Tatavarthi, talent acquisition specialist, attended the event to speak with students about OUC’s full-time and internship job opportunities.
