The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook and predicts an above-average storm season.

Forecasters anticipate a range of 13 to 19 named storms, with 6 to 10 of these anticipated to become hurricanes, including 3 to 5 storms expected to become major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5, with minimum winds of 111 miles per hour).

NOAA attributes the active season to warmer-than-average ocean temperatures, forecasts for weak wind shear and the potential for higher activity from the West African Monsoon, a conception zone for Atlantic hurricanes. These elements, when combined, fuel the formation and development of stronger storms.

The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through November 30. Officials caution that severe weather can happen at any moment and encourage everyone to be prepared.
