OUC line crews spent seven of their 10-day deployment working in Greenville.
OUC line crews dispatched to North Florida to help with post-Hurricane Idalia power restoration were released Friday, Sept. 8, ending a 10-day deployment.
Three OUC crews of 18 line technicians and a Fleet mechanic had been assisting Tri-County Electric Cooperative (TCEC) with recovery efforts in Greenville, Fla., since Saturday, Sept. 2. OUC originally sent the crews on Aug. 30 to help the City of Tallahassee Utilities (CTU) with power restoration work. After being released by CTU, the crews were redeployed to Greenville.
Clint Nash, Foreman of TCEC line and right-of-way crews, said Idalia was the first hurricane to damage the utility’s grid and knocked out power to all 20,000 customers. He thanked OUC crew members for their help.
“They were a wonderful help. They knew what to do and could work independently. They didn’t need any hand holding,” he said.
Nash also thanked Louisiana Utilities System, CTU, Kissimmee Utility Authority and Lakeland Electric for sending crews to help TCEC.
Jeff Cockcroft, OUC Line Supervisor, said his crewmen put in long days while deployed in the field, “but their spirts were high the entire time, and they never complained. This deployment was an invaluable experience for the young guys on the team. They got a lot of hands-on experience.”
OUC’s Idalia deployment team left Orlando for Tallahassee on Aug. 30.
