Similar to the Water Color Project, the Watts Savings calendar contest will foster creativity and conservation.

Art work depicting the earth and a rainbow to show the importance of water conservation

2024 Water Conservation Calendar artwork created by Arantza A. from Andover Elementary School.

This fall, OUC will introduce the Watts Savings Project to Osceola County School District students who attend a school within OUC’s service territory. The project serves as the Osceola County counterpart to OUC’s Water Color Project. The outreach initiative aims to educate 4th and 5th graders about the importance of energy conservation, as OUC provides only electric service to customers in Osceola County.

Students can collaborate with their teachers to create artwork that illustrates a positive message or slogan about energy conservation for the 2025 Energy Conservation Calendar. OUC’s Water Color Project will continue to educate and inspire Orange County students with calendar and rain barrel contests. Voting for the Water Color Project’s calendar cover will coincide with the Watts Savings Project.

In 2006, OUC partnered with Orange County Public Schools to promote water conservation through education and art with our annual Water Color Project. Since then, more than 30,000 students have participated in the calendar design and rain barrel painting projects that encourage artistic creativity showcasing water conservation themes.

For the past 15 years, OUC and the Orlando Science Center teamed up to launch Project AWESOME (Alternative Water and Energy Supply; Observation, Methods and Education). Through the program, 5th graders in Orange and Osceola counties discover energy and water conservation through hands-on workshops and labs. During the 2023-24 school year, over 11,000 5th grade students from more than 67 schools in Central Florida engaged in these learning experiences.

Cover Selection
Covers for each calendar will be chosen by the community on OUC’s Facebook page. Votes will be cast through an online voting platform. Each of the 12 remaining pieces of artwork will represent one month of the year.

Cover voting runs from Monday, Nov. 18, to Friday, Nov. 22.

At OUC, we’re committed to improving the community we serve for generations to come.  Teaching students the value of energy and water helps them become environmentally conscious adults.
